Understanding Lamp Shade Fitters
For Fabric & Silk Shades:
- Washer fitters have three wires with a round center washer attached by a finial (typically 1/2" from the top)
- Chandelier clip-on fits small pointed bulbs
- Clip-on/Torpedo clips fit standard Edison bulbs
- Uno/Bridge style features a large circular fitter for 1 1/2" Edison sockets
For Glass Shades: Fitter sizes are 1/8" larger than the outside glass diameter. For example:
- A 2 1/4" fitter fits a 2" outside diameter glass shade
- A 1 5/8" fitter fits 1 1/2" outside diameter glass
- A 10" fitter (student shades) fits 9 3/4" outside diameter glass
- A 1" opening (lily shades) requires a 1 1/8" fitter
Note: When measuring broken or unavailable items, fitter sizes may be given 1/8" to 1/4" larger than the actual diameter.
